RAHMAT ABD. KARIM. The Inhibiting Factors of Exclusive
Breastfeeding of Breastfeeding Mother at Dangkalan Village, Banggai District in
the Year of 2013. (Consultant I, Lasanada and Consultant II, Eha Sumantri)
Exclusive Breasfeeding is very
important for the child’s health and intelligence in which child is the next
generation of this nation. Indonesia
came out six of the 18 ASEAN countries with the lowest percentage of exclusive
breastfeeding in children which ranges about 32%. The factors that cause
inhibition in exclusive breastfeeding are: mother’s internal factors, namely
knowledge, education, job, health status and the external factors such as family
supports and birth attendants. This research objective was to find out the
internal and external factors of the failure in exclusive breastfeeding of
infants aged 0-6 months at Dangkalan and Tinakin Laut Village, Banggai
District.
This
research includes analytical survey with cross
sectional approach. The population in this research were all breastfeeding
mothers who have children aged 0-12 months in the Dangkalan Village which
totalled 47. The research was conducted in Maret and April 2013.
Chi
Square test
result shows that the factors that inhibit mothers breastfed their children through
exclusive breastfeeding at the Dangkalan Village are knowledge (p = 0,000),
attitude (p = 0,012), family support (p = 0,001), and support for birth
attendants (p = 0,029) . Therefore, the improvement of public health education,
the empowerment of posyandu cadres are absolutely needed in order to create
interactive communication and the need of campaign activities in socializing
the exclusive breastfeeding program.
